Week 4

Hello everyone, these are the newest additions to Nexus introduced this week:

Vitor :

- Since the first prototype we showed, we noticed our performance on the Main Hub Level wasn't up to par with the performance on the combat tests. Taking this into account we dissected the Level to try and find which elements were taking the biggest toll on the performance and we managed to optimize the level to a more acceptable frame rate then before;

- In order to keep building the framework to develop the game's main content the inventory system's structure was implemented. This means you are able to pick up, store and drop items from your inventory but also access chests where you can store or get items from. We added a few basic items that can be manipulated and used such as health and mana potions, books, coins, minerals, faran crystals and keys;

- Another framework we implemented was the Quest System which makes available a few simple quest types that can be further developed to suit the story and gameplay needs. The types of quests available in the current state are: collecting a certain amount of items, killing enemies, talking to NPCs and going to a certain location.

Tomás :

- After feedback from the prototype testing during the lab class, the targeting system was improved to make switching targets easier by using the mouse, as well as made sure the camera wouldn't go above a certain height when closer to the target. This was done by replacing the current system with the use of the "Target System Component Plugin" from the Epic Marketplace.

Pedro :

- This week the HUB prototype level was completed, which included re-working the foliage that was changed to increase performance. After finishing the prototype, the design of the first dungeon and the location in the HUB where the first portal would be accessed was started.
